The following six visas are available to foreign tourists
planning to visit Goa:
- a) Business Visa (issued for a month or six months)
- b) Student Visa (valid for one year or the duration
of opted course in India)
- c) Conference Visa (for attending international
conferences in India)
- d) Transit Visa (issued for maximum 15 days with
single/double entry facilities)
- e) Journalist Visa (issued to professional journalists/photojournalists)
- f) Employment Visa (issued to the foreign professionals
working in Indian organizations).
The required procedure to obtain an Indian Visa
- A passport must be valid for a minimum of six months
after the planned date of departure from India, with
a visa application and pasted passport size photographs
must be kept ready for submission.
- The foreign nationals should present a proof of
long-term stay (at least three years)/ permanent residence)
along with references from the country of origin and
application for the Indian Visa.
- The charges/fees for visa processing are as per
the discretion of the applicant's home government
and the policies for the type/duration of visa applied
for. The charges are refundable only if the visa already
issued is cancelled thereafter.
Registration Of Foreigners
The Indian Government requires foreigners to complete
certain formalities while visiting India. Incase the
validity of the visa is over 180, foreigners must register
themselves at the nearest foreigners' registration office
in Goa within the fortnight following their arrival
in India. This registration is necessary only once during
the validity of Indian Visa. Only if they hold a multi-visit
visa will the tourist be permitted to leave and re-enter
India as many times as they want. An extension can be
taken on tourist visas for a maximum of three months
at the foreigners' registration office at Panaji, where
they must submit the registration certificate that is
essential at the time of departure from India.
Medical Precautions
The change in water and climate may cause persistent/severe
stomach upset. Thus tourists are advised to take the
essential precautions and make certain the required
vaccinations are done. It is suitable to plan vaccinations
well in advance and consult a doctor, before commencing
ones tour of Goa. While visiting India it is essential
to take the yellow fever vaccination especially if you
are entering India from an infected area. Protect your
feet from fungal and parasitic infections by keeping
your feet clean and dry and avoid walking barefoot.
